UK employees pressured to work overtime by fear of being judged

Research conducted by Opinium on behalf of totaljobs found that two in five British employees regularly stay later than their contracted hours to keep up appearances.

The study found that workers in Birmingham are the most likely to stay at work after hours, with almost half (44%) of the city’s workers being impacted by the growing culture of presenteeism.

Looking at the industries where presenteeism is most prominent, IT and tech tops the list.

Additionally, the research found that younger workers are most likely to fall victim to presenteeism and work over time, with 58% of 18-34s working past their contracted hours, compared to only 29% of over 55s.
