Summer Regrets

Coming right at the top of the list were the 21% of UK adults who wished they?d been more active over the summer. Other health-related worries included 11% who said they hadn?t stuck to their diet over the summer.

Other big regrets included a wish to have enjoyed themselves in a slightly quieter and more relaxing way, whether that was through gardening (13%), just making the most of the hot weather (17%) or a nice British beach (15%).

This is also clear when far more said they?d wished they had more BBQs and picnics (20%) than regretted not eating out more at restaurants (4%) or going out more for a drink (5%). Even for the 18-34s, regrets such as didn?t drink and go out enough came near the bottom of the list with 6%.

On the other hand, more than a quarter (27%) of us didn?t have any summer regrets at all, rising to a third (32%) of over 55s. So at least some of us had the summer we wanted…

Opinium Research carried out an online survey of 2,001 UK adults. Results have been weighted to nationally representative criteria. The research was conducted from 20th to 24th September 2013.
