Research reveals that temporary stamp duty cut would encourage home moving

Research conducted by Opinium on the behalf of specialist bank Aldermore found that more than a fifth of recent home buyers would consider moving home if stamp duty was cut for a temporary period.

We found that almost a sixth (15%) of longer term home owners (those who bought over four years ago) would be encouraged to move if a stamp duty reduction was introduced.

Potential first-time buyers are particularly open to this idea, with three in ten (30%) saying they would accelerate their home buying plans if concessions on stamp duty were made in the upcoming budget.

Further to this, two in five (41%) say they would like to see more social housing and over a quarter (28%) would like an extension of the Help to Buy scheme.
