Number of working Scots over 65 ‘set to treble’

Research carried out by Opinium on the behalf of financial services provider OneFamily found that workers above retirement age is set to treble as one in ten workers say they will have to continue in employment full-time and never retire.

The research revealed that the cost of retirement has become so unaffordable that the number of Scottish workers over 65 is expected to treble.

Despite these revelations, the study found that almost a third (30%) of working age adults are not saving anything for their retirement. One in five say they can’t afford to save and one in ten simply have not got round to it. Of those not saving, a quarter prefer to spend what they have in the here and now, thus prioritising socialising and luxuries like holidays.
