Britons left with a backlog of bills

Almost one in ten Britons (8%) who pay rent or have a mortgage have missed at least one payment in the last year, while the same number of water bill and council tax payers also missed payments.

The research also found that almost a quarter (23%) of those aged 18 to 34 had missed a repayment on a credit car or loan, pointing to serious credit and debt problems among the younger generation.

Over one in four (27%) who missed a payment said they had been ‘hounded’ for payment, while more than two in five (43%) found themselves lumbered with extra charges and interest on top of their bills.
